Sizwe Hosmed under curatorship: what it means
Sizwe Hosmed is on the CMS register as an open scheme (CMS Annual Report 2025/26). The CMS reported that it was placed under curatorship and that, on unaudited figures at 31 December 2025, its solvency was 14.07%, against the 25% minimum of Regulation 29.
From the scheme's notice to members (court papers, published 27 October 2026):
- the High Court in Pretoria ordered the curatorship on 3 September 2025 and confirmed it on 9 October 2025; Ian Fleming was appointed curator on 11 February 2026;
- on 21 October 2026 the curator, with the Registrar's agreement, applied to extend the curatorship to 3 September 2027; members may apply to be heard until 18 November 2026;
- the notice states that the extension "does not change your benefits, your contributions or your cover. Claims will continue to be paid as they are now";
- the scheme has been self-administered since 1 September 2026, after its previous administrator reported financial distress, and must be accredited as its own administrator, or appoint one, by 30 April 2027.
On 30 October 2026 the curator reported that the remaining medical savings account refunds of R92 million were settled and that R222 million had been paid to 13,883 former members since he took over (curator's update).
